Sniffing, following or seeking attention does not establish that a dog understands menstruation. A behavior change is an observation; assigning a particular human hormonal cause to it is a separate claim that this page cannot substantiate.
Describe what actually happened
Record the action, timing and setting instead of treating ‘he knows’ as a diagnosis. For example, ‘sniffed a bag after our walk’ is an observation. It does not show what the dog smelled or understood. Other changes in routine or attention may be relevant too.
Respond to the behavior
Give the dog space, keep personal hygiene items inaccessible and redirect unwanted investigation calmly. Persistent distress, aggression or a new unusual behavior deserves an individual conversation with your veterinary team. The VCA behavior guide explains why actions need context.
Keep health questions separate
A pet’s reaction is not a pregnancy test or a way to assess a person’s health. Research or trained scent-detection work does not automatically validate an untrained household dog’s behavior.
